Camping in the fall can be a wonderful way to celebrate nature before the arrival of winter weather.  Camping in the fall can mean that there is a little more of a nip in the air than during the summer months and that activities like swimming may be off the table- but there are plenty of other great things to do on a fall vacation outdoors. To help you to make sure that your fall camping trip is a great, successful vacation that you and your co-travelers are talking about for a long time to come, consider some fall camping tips.

Fall Camping Tips

Some of the most essential fall camping tips to consider to ensure that you have a great outdoor vacation at a campsite during the fall weather include the following:

  • Create a checklist. You want to be able to plan everything that you need for your fall camping trip. A checklist that you start early in the planning process will help you to focus your energies efficiently on preparing for your vacation and will help to ensure you do not forget anything important.
  • Find the perfect campground or RV-park. You want to find the perfect place to park your trailer or to head off to in your camper where there is still plenty to do and see even though it is fall.
  • Watch the weather forecasts. Weather during the fall months can be uncertain and you do not want to end up packing for the wrong temperatures. Look carefully at the weather forecast as you prepare to leave on your trip and be sure to come prepared for rain or colder weather just in case.
  • Bring a mix of clothes so you can layer. You should bring water-resistant and breathable clothing, some of it heavy and some of it light, so you can put together the right outfit for any outdoor activity. Since you may get warmer afternoons compared with cooler mornings and evenings, being able to layer is also going to be key to staying comfortable.
  • Test any gear you’ll be bringing with you. If you are bringing anything with you on your camping trip like a tent or sports gear, be sure to check and make sure everything is in working order before you go. Likewise, if you plan to take an RV on your camping trip, make sure that the appliances and all of the mechanical systems on the RV are in good working order.
  • Bring along sunscreen and insect repellent. Just because the hottest days of summer are over does not mean all of the insects are done for the season and it does not mean you do not need to worry about sun damage to your skin. Be sure to come prepared with what you need to protect yourself.
